Before working at Cablevey, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? When I first moved out to Denver, CO I worked part time jobs and one of them was working security for concerts. While doing this I was able to work security for musicians like System of a Down, Modest Mouse, Pixies, Tenacious D and Snoop Dogg. It was pretty interesting getting to meet all the different bands and listen to the concerts for free!
How did you first learn about Cablevey? I knew of Cablevey while I lived in Oskaloosa as a kid. I believe I even took a tour or two through school.
What do you like most about Cablevey? There are many things that I love about Cablevey. If I had to narrow it down, I could probably get it down to two main things. I love the people I work with and I love the variety of projects I get to work on.
What is your proudest moment at Cablevey? My proudest moment at Cablevey would have to be when I got my first control panel wired up correctly and it actually worked!
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you? I no joke have heard that I kind of look like Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom. So if we were going off resemblance then one of those two but if I could choose anyone I would probably pick Tom Hardy.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us. I don’t really look like the type but I love to craft. Give me a theme/costume party to go to and I will just run wild with my outfit and decorations.
What is number one on your bucket list? To continue traveling around the world and visiting new places.
What tv show/movie are you ashamed to admit you love? It would have to be Armageddon. Bruce Willis talking to his daughter in the movie at the end gets me every time.
If you could only drink one kind of beer for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? Well I am from Iowa so I don’t think I have a choice besides Busch Light.
If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring? I love watching those wilderness survival shows and this is something my girlfriend and I have discussed many times. 1. Fishing net 2. Fire starter 3. Cutting tool
If your house was burning down, what is the one non-living thing you would save? I would probably go for my photo albums first.
What places have you lived in? Okinawa, Japan, Camp Pendleton, California, Denver, CO, Iowa City, Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa and everywhere in between.
If you could meet anyone in the world (dead or alive) who would it be and why? This is a hard one. I’m going to keep it to alive people only to make it easier. It would probably be Secretary of Defense James “Mad Dog” Mattis. I’ve always looked up to him since my time serving in the Marine Corps and would love to hear his stories, first hand.
What is the weirdest thing you’ve eaten? This is hard as I am no stranger to trying new foods. Maybe Escargot (snails)
Motto or personal mantra? “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” T.S. Eliot
What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far? While in the Marines I had an instructor give me the essential tips to being successful in any job.
- Show up on time or earlier.
- Show up with the required gear.
- Show up with the attitude to get things accomplished.
What are your hopes for our industry? My hopes are that Cablevey continues to increase our market share of the industry and that with my fellow engineers and my work that we can be the trailblazers in new markets and fields.
